Norton Error: (8920,223) "Norton Live Update was unable to install an update" when I run Live Update in my Norton product

This error occurs when the latest virus definitions are getting published on the server and usually gets fixed in two hours. If you still receive the error, run LiveUpdate.

STEP 1
Run LiveUpdate after 24 hours
An intermittent problem with the LiveUpdate servers can cause this error. You can be assured that this problem is fixed quickly. Wait for 24 hours and then run LiveUpdate again.
You may notice this error when you run Live Update manually. LiveUpdate downloads these updates automatically, and often by the time you manually run LiveUpdate again, the updates will be installed successfully.
If the virus definitions of your Norton product are out of date, you can use Intelligent Updater to update it.

STEP 2
Check your virus definitions date
Start your Norton product.
Depending on your Norton product, do one of the following:
For Norton Anti Virus or Norton Internet Security: On the Norton product window, under LiveUpdate, check for the time next to Last Update.
For Norton 360: On the Norton product window, click Security. Under Run LiveUpdate, check for the time next to Definitions updated.
Depending on your situation, do one of the following:
If the time is less than one day, then wait for 24 hours and then run LiveUpdate again.
If the time is more than one day, go to Step 3 to update your virus definitions using Intelligent Updater.

STEP 3
Update your virus definitions

Go to the Intelligent Updater downloads page.
Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:

For Windows 8/7/Vista/XP 32-bit: Click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i32.exe. e.g. 20070828-017-v5i32.exe

For Windows 8/7/Vista 64-bit: Go to the 64-bit Platforms section, and click the first file in the list under File name. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i64.exe. e.g. 20090922-017-v5i64.exe

Save the file to the Windows desktop.


On the desktop, double-click the file that you saved.
If you continue see the error message when you run Live Update, Please contact Norton antivirus support  1-800647-8900.
